PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
To provide qualifiers with:
1. Postgraduate level knowledge of the fields of Nutrition and the Food Sciences.
2. The ability to integrate the concepts of Nutrition and the Food Sciences i.e. The understanding and application of science to satisfy the needs of the individual and society for foods that ensure and sustain good health.
3. Knowledge of the principles of scientific research
4. Skills to apply scientific research methodology to the understanding of the nature of foods and their physiological and cultural roles in ensuring and sustaining good health
5. Opportunities for personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions to science and society.
