PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The first purpose of the qualification is to provide qualifiers with graduate level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in the basic medical sciences, with a specific focus on the structure and function of the human body. This will provide opportunities for continued, personal intellectual growth.

The second purpose of the qualification is to provide the learner with such a broad background in the basic medical sciences, that he/she will be able to continue their study in any related science.

The third purpose of the qualification is to provide qualifiers with questioning minds and research skills in medical science in general.
