Learning outcomes:
Ph D on Consumer Science: Development. This interdisciplinary programme is designed to equip learners to demonstrate competencies such as: the skills to plan, execute and report on original scientific research to make a meaningful contribution to knowledge in the development of interior merchandise products as well as management-related activities in the above mentioned fields.

The learner should be able to demonstrate:
  • An ability to design and plan scientific research.
  • An ability to execute scientific research that makes an original contribution to the field
  • An ability to undertake research independently.
  • A deepened understanding and knowledge of the theories, philosophies and practice of the specific field in which the research is undertaken

    A dissertation plus an *article is required as output by the learner. The final examination is an oral defence by the candidate.

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    To ensure that the assessment is fair, reliable and valid both internal and external assessors will be appointed to assess the written thesis, the articles submitted for publication, as well as the oral defence of the thesis. The University of Pretoria will appoint the external assessors. The criteria for appointment will be based on the academic qualification and relevant experience of the assessor. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Qualifications required:
    A NQF level 8 Doctorate Degree in Consumer Science: Development or related fields.

    Career experience required:
    Relevant academic and/or research experience in Consumer Science: Development and/or professional practice experience and expertise in the above-mentioned field.
