| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| A qualifying learner will be able to perform as a food researcher and developer, manage a food operation or market food products in the retail and production industries. These activities should maximise the quality of fresh convenience food products and enhance the quality of life of the consumer. |

| QUALIFICATION RULES |
| The qualification will be awarded to a learner who has provided evidence to the satisfaction of the assessors that the stated competence of the qualification, as detailed in the specific outcomes, has been achieved, either through education and training the single provider's learning programmes, or through experience that complies with the stated specified outcomes. |
| EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES |
| 1. Analyse and evaluate existing products to develop new fresh convenience food products.
2. Undertake a food/related research project individually or in groups. 3. Manage resources in food retail and related food industries. 4. Manage marketing strategies with regard to food and nutrition. Specified outcomes: On obtaining this qualification learners should be able to: 1. Display knowledge of current food trends. (C). 2. Identify a feasible food related research project (c). 3. Apply knowledge and understanding of management, food science, food production skills, food safety and hygiene (e). 4. Apply knowledge and understanding of marketing, consumer behaviour, food science and nutrition in reviewing/developing a strategic marketing plan (e). Critical outcomes: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the world as a set of related systems by recognising that problem-solving contexts do not exist in isolation. 2. Work effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation, community. 3. Organise and manage oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively. 4. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information. 5. Identify and solve problems in which solutions display that responsible decisions have been made, using critical creative thinking. 6. Use science and technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment and health of others. 7. Communicate effectively using visual, scientific and/or language skills in the modes of oral and/or written presentation. | While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
