| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The qualifying learner will through research be able to make a significant contribution to the understanding, application and evaluation of existing knowledge in a specialised area of technology and be able to demonstrate in that specialised area a high level of knowledge, ranging from fundamental concepts to advanced theoretical and applied knowledge. |

| 1. A detailed, professional thesis is produced that conforms to the specification laid down for the qualification.
The results are presented and defended for internal and external assessment. Research publication(s) is/are produced for and published by appropriate journal(s). 2. Research results are applied to the Plastics community. Integrated assessment: Written thesis, oral/written tests and exams, and oral/written presentations. |

| While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above).
