| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| The main purpose of the LLM Degree is to provide learners with an applied knowledge of the labour law in general, and also in specific new areas of labour law. The labour law is a fast developing, dynamic field of law, and is an absolute necessity for economic empowerment and social upliftment.
Secondly the qualification will enhance the market ability of the learners in the labour market and would ensure job opportunities in the fields of law and commerce. As such the qualification would create more opportunities than a pure law qualification. South Africa is part of the world community and our labour law should take note of international developments. This qualification will satisfy the need for highly skilled professional to drive the development process for the benefit of South Africa and also Africa as a whole. This will also ensure lifelong learning and development in labour law. The added value of this qualification is to provide South Africa with professionals with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to translate into competent performance in the workplace. Learners should demonstrate knowledge, skills and applied competence in Labour Law and related sub-fields as required by NQF levels. A further purpose of this qualification is to provide equip learners with the foundation for further research and development as subsequent NQF levels. |

| Integrated Assessment:
The learner will be assessed through group discussions, dissertations and an examination as to the basic level of knowledge pertaining to their knowledge of the principles. The level of assessment will be to test the learners in the solving of typical practical problems and as to the philosophy of labour law. The latter will serve as a tool to enable the learners to solve problems that were not encountered in the teaching situation. Input from practitioners in the fields of labour law will be used, as well as academic assessment by external examiners and moderators. |
