| The South African (SA) qualification is a generic qualification which will draw on specific specialisations of fields and disciplines of study. The SA is a full research qualification that culminates in a thesis.
Many doctoral qualifications focus on management and administration and not necessarily business and management sciences as in the nomenclature of the South African (SA) qualification. While many of the Doctor of Business Administration qualifications in the USA, such as the PhD in Business Administration offered at the Harvard Business School, have both coursework components and thesis components, there are shared commonalities with that of the SA qualification relating to the entry, supervision, and thesis requirements.
