PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with applied competencies in the understanding and interpreting of logistics management principles, in preparation for a career in the logistics field and to provide a basis for further learning.

The learner should be able to reflect on the study material in the context of a logistics organisation, or the logistics function of a company, and to assess decisions impacting logistics management. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Recognition of Prior Learning in the case of learners not complying with the formal entry requirements will be conducted in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the Institution concerning the recognition of other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. Recognition takes place only where prior learning corresponds to the required NQF-Level, and in terms of applied competencies relevant to the content and outcomes of the qualification. Through Recognition of Prior Learning learners may gain access, or advance placement, or status recognition on the condition that they continue their studies at this Institution.

    The learners should be able to:
    1. Assess and apply logistics management concepts and principles and identify, and propose solutions to, problems relating to the logistics management strategies and policies.
    2. Work in a team with various role players, with respect to logistics profession, as well as considering people on the grassroots level related to logistics business.
    3. Act responsibly with respect to activities undertaken in the course of his/her evaluation and application of logistics management concepts and principles.
    4. Undertake research in logistic, including gathering, analysing, integrating and presenting related information.
    5. Communicate effectively, orally and/or in writing, with different role players in, logistics, applying principles of communication and reflecting on the communication skills applied.
    6. Utilise basic management technology appropriate to the transport environment.
    7. Explain the importance and role of the logistics profession, and management thereof both on a micro- and a macro-level.
    8. Identify different learning strategies to acquire and improve the various skills and capabilities.

    ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    1. The learner must demonstrate an ability to identify and solve problems, demonstrating critical and creative thinking about logistics management concepts and principles. The learner must evaluate and, where relevant, apply theoretical concepts and approaches to the logistics management strategies and policies. The learner must be able to reflect on the application made.
    2. The learner must be able to display team ship. The learner must demonstrate an acceptable level of social sensitivity in his/her relationships with others and work effectively in a team by implementing the relevant theory and reflecting on the implementation made. Finally the learner must display knowledge and understanding of the various role players involved in, or affected by, the logistics.
    3. The learner must display an ability to act responsibly in interactions with other role players. The learner must also display accountability for any activities required of him/her in his /her application of the various logistics management concepts and principles.
    4. The learner must demonstrate the ability to plan and execute research in the field of logistics, including the correct gathering, analysing, integrating and presenting of information on logistics management issues, by utilising relevant theoretical research principles and reflecting on the research undertaken.
    5. The learner must effectively communicate, in an oral and/or written manner, with different role players, particularly in the logistics management field, by applying the theoretical principles of communication and reflecting on the application made.
    6. The learner must demonstrate an ability to operate specified management technology important to the management of a logistics business or function. The learner must use a computer as well as logistics-related Internet and/or databases.
    7. The learner must explain the importance and role of the logistics profession, and the management thereof, internationally, regionally and nationally. The learner must also discern between the roles of logistics at both macro-and micro levels.
    8. The learner must show that he/she is able to identify the different skills and capabilities necessary in the execution of the activities and responsibilities of a logistics manager, and to consider different effective learning options to acquire these skills and capabilities.
    9. The learner must explain the link between the number of logistics professionals and level of professionalism logistics, and the effectiveness and efficiency of the logistics profession and therefore of the economy. The learner must identify the impacts and/or roles that more effective and efficient logistics businesses will have in the economy and the impact that this will in turn have.
    10. The learner must demonstrate a positive approach towards various different communities and a sensitivity for the social, economic and cultural differences within these communities, by identifying distribution needs of different communities, identifying and considering their various social, economic and cultural differences and therefore their differing needs and requirements with respect to logistics.
    11. The learner must demonstrate employment-seeking skills for entry into the logistics profession by applying theoretical principles of employment-seeking and career-pathing and reflecting on the application thereof.
    12. The learner must display an ability to effectively and responsibly organise and coordinate resources and opportunities, particularly in the field of logistics, by applying relevant theoretical aspects and reflecting on the application made. The learner must also demonstrate an acceptable level of responsibility and organisational ability with respect to their own activities. Finally, the learner must demonstrate a knowledge of the implications of all organising and coordinating activities undertaken.

    Integrated Assessment:
    Formative assessment practices that will be implemented:
    Learners are continually assessed by means of class assignments, essays, presentations, informal class tests and formal modular tests, in written or oral mode. The learner may also be required to do practical work (independent and in groups during study visits) which is evaluated by assessors. In addition, the learner must also assess himself/herself as well as the work of classmates, and reflect on the dynamics of this process.

    Summative assessment practices that will be implemented:
    Integrated assessment, focusing on the achievement of the exit-level outcomes, will be done by means of a 3 hour examination per module undertaken for the qualification, towards the end of that module.

    This qualification allows possibilities for both vertical and horizontal articulation.

  • Advanced Diploma in Logistics, NQF Level 7.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, NQF Level 7.

  • Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Logistics, NQF Level 8.
