The University of Cambridge offers Master of Philosophy (MPhil) which provides an excellent transition to full-scale PhD research. The qualification introduces learners to research skills and specialist knowledge. The research MPhil offered by Cambridge University requires learners to work with supervisors to write two research essays: the first of up to 4,000 words, and the second of up to 8,000 words; and a thesis of up to 12,000 words. The institution qualification requires a 180-Credit dissertation. Australia: The University of Queensland is offering Master of Philosophy (MPhil) that provides learners with an opportunity to develop and enhance analytical and research skills through independent investigation in a specific field through the production of a piece of research. Similar to this Master of Philosophy, the learner should possess the ability to formulate a significant problem, mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological frameworks, and the capacity for articulate and critical analysis, on completion study. The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) offered by the Macquarie University is an ungraded qualification awarded for research that demonstrates that the learner has contributed to knowledge in a particular field of study by presenting new facts or by demonstrating an independent critical ability to evaluate existing material in a new light. Like the institution's qualification, the MPhil offered by this University is available in all Faculties, requiring a contribution to knowledge in a particular field of study by presenting new facts or by demonstrating an independent critical ability to evaluate existing material in a new light.
