PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
Purpose:
A Resin Floor Finisher plays an extremely critical role in the construction industry because they install and ensure the integrity of the installation of the resin flooring. The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to restore and prepare substrates and install resin flooring. A qualified Resin Floor Finisher will be able to install resin flooring. Rationale: The quality and cost efficiency of flooring installation and finishing ultimately impact on the retail or rental value of the entities constructed which again impacts on the profitability of the developers who form part of the greater economic profile of the country. There are no qualification for a Resin Floor Finisher and this qualification will equip the learner with the necessary skills and competence to operate as a Resin Floor Finisher. Typical learners will be those who have completed NQF Level 1 or those currently working in the resin flooring installation environment and who wish to improve their qualifications. The benefits accruing to the learner is the acquisition of a nationally recognised qualification that will improve their current knowledge, skills and competencies regarding installation of the resin flooring. Those currently employed in the flooring sector will gain recognition for the competencies they have acquired. In addition, the qualification will create improved access to other education and training opportunities in the flooring sector at a higher level; learners could become Resin Flooring Installation Supervisors. This occupational qualification will increase employment opportunities for Resin Floor Finishers because they will receive a high standard of training that is comparable with international standards. The qualification will produce competent learners who are able to contribute to improved productivity and efficiency within the broad construction environment. The benefits to the country includes the fact that this qualification will serve as a national benchmark for Resin Floor Finishers and increase public confidence in the services offered by those installing the product. A Resin Floor Finisher will improve the quality of life of society by ensuring that product installation meets international and national standards. Employers will benefit because they will enjoy access to appropriately qualified Resin Floor Finishers who will be able to conduct high-quality, efficient and safe installation operations, with minimum disruption to productivity. |

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2: Integrated Formative Assessment: The skills development providers will use the curriculum to guide them on the stipulated internal assessment criteria and weighting. They will also apply the scope of practical skills and applied knowledge as stipulated by the internal assessment criteria. This formative assessment leads to entrance into the integrated external summative assessment. Integrated Summative Assessment: The external integrated summative assessment, conducted through the relevant QCTO Assessment Quality Partner, is required to issue this qualification. The external integrated summative assessment will focus on the Exit Level Outcomes and associated assessment criteria. The assessment will be combination of a written or oral examination and a set of practical tasks at a registered assessment site. Assessors registered with the Assessment Quality Partner will conduct the external integrated summative assessment. |
INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
This qualification was compared to qualifications from the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
New Zealand: The New Zealand qualification has a core compulsory component and many elective strands which cover a number of floor types/products. The learner is able to choose the floor type/product they would want to install. The National Certificate in Flooring (Level 4) offered by Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation with strands in Carpet Installation, Fine Sand and Finishes, Flooring Planning and Design, Resilient Flooring Installation, Substrate Preparation, Timber Overlay Installation, and Resin Flooring Application is at Level 4 and carries 124-200 Credits. The core compulsory standards are: The Resin Flooring Application Strand comprises of the following standards: The Substrate Preparation Strand comprises of the following generic standards: United Kingdom: The Resin Flooring Association (FeFRA) is based in the UK and offers training on resin floor installation. Their qualification includes: FeRFA has three apprenticeship schemes all of which are run at least annually: The schemes are delivered in modules by a mix of formal instruction off the job, alongside supervised on the job training at employer level, with a final end assessment by an industry approved Assessor. All courses lead to an NVQ Level 2 Diploma. The courses take two years to complete and modules are held over two (and sometimes three) days at regular intervals throughout the first year and half of the second year. During the remaining months the candidates continue with their learning on the job, gaining in experience until the final assessment period. Conclusion: This qualification compares well with the qualification and training programmes cited above. However, the New Zealand qualification is more extensive and compares better with the South African qualification. |
