The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
The purpose of the qualification is to impart to learners postgraduate level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence as required by the Faculty, which provides a solid theoretical and academic platform for these learners to begin their postgraduate studies in Management Sciences, Financial or Economic Sciences or Public Management and Administration. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • A relevant Bachelor degree, NQF Level 7.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
  • Understand the theories associated with a postgraduate qualification in the Management/Financial/Economic Sciences and Public Management and Administration.
  • Understand the literature associated with a postgraduate qualification in the Management/Financial/Economic Sciences and Public Management and Administration.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
  • Obtain the required knowledge and skills in Management/Financial/Economic Sciences and Public Management and Administration necessary for further studies in these fields.
  • Inculcate the necessary frameworks and approaches in the fields of Management/Financial/Economic Sciences and Public Management and Administration to facilitate further postgraduate studies in these fields.

    Integrated Assessment:
    Formative assessment are performed on a monthly basis. This is done via the monitoring procedures for the qualification. Monitoring of learners learning in the qualification is performed via a monthly discussion between the qualification committee, modular convener and lecturer in charge of that module.

    This process helps to identify specific weaknesses in the learner's knowledge before engaging in a formal assessment process. The summative assessment is performed by process of formal internal and external moderation of examination papers and examination scripts. This is performed by Faculty appointed internal and external examiners according to prescribed institution's standards and policy. 

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    This qualification is comparable to other international programmes that, after completion, will potentially provide students with access to 'master's degree studies provided they meet set selection requirements. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    This qualification allows possibilities for both vertical and horizontal articulation.

    Horizontal Articulation:
  • A Cognate Post Graduate Diploma NQF Level 8 or
  • A relevant Bachelor Honours qualification, NQF Level 8.

    Vertical Articulation:
  • 'Master of Economics, NQF Level 9.
