These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered. |

| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Purpose:
This qualification has been designed on five core disciplines, namely Law, Economics, Industrial Psychology, Accounting and Business Management, and the integration of these disciplines. Knowledge, skills and attitudes are aligned with the Level 7 descriptors of the NQF. Learners obtaining the qualification will be able to enter the labour market as knowledgeable, skilled learners with competence in business-legal aspects, business-legal communication and management as well as experience in especially the middle management level where they will be able to apply ethical and professional business practices. The qualification does not by itself qualify the learners to practice as an Attorney or Advocate, since a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) qualification is required, but this qualification provides learners with the opportunity to articulate towards the LLB qualification with recognition for relevant modules completed. Learners will also have the necessary foundation to articulate into relevant NQF Level 8 qualifications. Rationale: The qualification focuses on the development of high quality Economic and Business Managers with an additional legal background. Individuals with this qualification should be able to display management and leadership skills, knowledge and expertise, both within the South African as well as the international business-legal context. The qualification addresses aspects of both the human and academic projects, with the latter focusing on subject skills, knowledge and expertise, while the former focuses on instilling a sense of social accountability in learners. The private sector in South Africa generates most employment opportunities in South Africa (as in most countries). The rationale for the qualification is therefore the need of the private, but also public sector for well-trained managers with an additional legal background. Given the capacity located in the departments of Economics, Business Management, Accounting and Industrial Psychology as well as the Faculty of Law, which are the core disciplines found in the qualification, the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in conjunction with the Faculty of Law, possess the capacity to offer the qualification. The strength of the qualification is the cooperation between the core disciplines to create an integrated knowledge base for the qualification. |
| LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
| Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Where learners do not meet the minimum admission requirements, RPL may be used to grant access to the qualification. RPL will be applied according to the Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit Accumulation and Transfer, and Assessment policy. This will relate to both access to the qualification as well as for credit recognition or exemption towards achieving the qualification. The institution will ensure that quality assurance processes that address the specificities of the RPL process (including applications, assessment, and reporting and management systems) are implemented; and that administrative and support systems, both prior and subsequent to RPL assessment, are in place. Entry Requirements: The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is: Or Or |

| ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
| Integrated Assessment:
Summative and a range of formative assessment is utilised, ranging between 40% and 60% for each of these components depending on the nature and requirements of the module. The combination of a variety of formative assessment methods and opportunities affords learners and staff the opportunity to monitor learner progress on a regular basis and address problems as they occur. Currently, a limited number of modules, however, utilise continuous assessment, based on the nature of these modules where assessment tasks such as portfolios, reports and/or assignments will be more suitable. Formative assessment takes the form of tests, assignments online quizzes, and self-assessment tests and case studies, within a particular context, in virtually all modules. Where appropriate to the content of the module, (syndicate) group work is applied. Summative assessment is done through written examinations. |
| INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
| Both Business, Economic and Management Studies as well as Law are established areas for the training of learners worldwide. This qualification draws from the strengths of both these fields to ensure an international comparable qualification that includes benchmarks from both these study fields. This qualification affords learners the opportunity to be well-prepared to function in a business-legal environment. This area of training is guided by international publications and international comparability is achieved by the scholarship of Teaching and Learning displayed by lecturers within the different fields of study. |
