PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • To prepare Registered Nurses for practice as Nurse Administrators in a nursing service.
  • To facilitate registration in Nursing Administration with the South African Nursing Council
  • The qualification is designed in line with the health care needs of the South African society.

    Entry Requirements:
    The minimum entry requirement for the:
  • Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4.
    Or
  • National Certificate Vocational, NQF Level 4.

    Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a General or Psychiatric Nurse.
  • At least two years of clinical experience in a full-time post as a Registered Nurse.
  • Proof of personal professional indemnity insurance coverage.

    This qualification consists of the following compulsory and/or elective modules at National Qualifications Framework Level 6 totalling 360 Credits.

    1.2 Interpret and apply scientific and legislative principles in management practice.

    1.5 Interpret, utilise and compare health care management structures and processes.
    1.6 Interpret, utilise and assess supportive management structures and processes.
    1.7 Manage the teaching process in personnel development through appropriate methodology and strategies.
    1.8 Develop curricula and teaching media in personnel development programmes.

    The criteria for assessing learners are based on the learning outcomes listed above and the strategies that will be used to ensure that the specific and critical cross-field outcomes are achieved.

  • Assessment of theoretical and practical management assignments and seminars.

    Summative evaluation by means of:
  • Written examinations.
