PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with a more theoretical and practical insight into the field of Chemistry. To equip a qualifying learner with Postgraduate level skills that will be able to demonstrate a more in-depth knowledge of the main areas of chemistry that Include Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical. To equip the learner with skills in conducting research in the field of Chemistry.

Rationale:
The qualification is important as it provides the first step for training of Postgraduate learners for the development of research capacity in South Africa.
