PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
The general purpose of the Bachelor of Science Honours in Applied Mathematics is to equip students with a deep theoretical body of knowledge in Applied Mathematics so as to enable Graduates to undertake professional work or progress on to further learning at Masters level. Graduates will have coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in one or more disciplines of Applied Mathematics and related research principles and methods.
Rationale: To focus on increasing the levels of trained Personnel/Graduates in the field of Applied Mathematics in order to address the need in the job market as well as to increase the pool of available students for further research training. |

2. Rigorously critique and evaluate current research and participate in scholarly debates in an area of applied mathematics. 3. Relate theory to practice and vice versa. 4. Identify, analyse and deal with complex and/or real world problems and issues drawing systematically and creatively on the theory, research methods and literature. 5. Apply advanced information retrieval and processing skills to identify, critically analyse, synthesise and independently evaluate quantitative and/or qualitative data and undertake a study of the literature and current research in applied mathematics. 6. Produce a relevant research report under supervision which meets the standards of scholarly/professional writing. 7. Be able to present and communicate the results of the research to general audience. |

Associated Assessment Criteria For Exit Level Outcomes.
The following Associated Assessment Criteria will be applied in an integrated manner across Exit level Outcomes: Integrated Assessment: Assessment methods for each module are through traditional methods such as assignments, tests and examinations. In the case of the project only the final report is assessed. The assessment is conducted after completion and submission of the report. As with the other modules, independent external moderation follows the same assessment format as the internal examination. |
