| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Purpose:
The purpose of the Masters of Engineering in Energy Efficiency is to educate learners qualifying from undergraduate qualifications with knowledge and skills in the field of Energy Efficiency to enable them to engage at a high level in personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and contributions beneficial to local society and the international society as the qualification will be aligned with European-and Namibian Universities via the EDULINK PEESA project. Rationale: The 21st century presents unique energy challenges and the trend is to continue to offer conventional engineering qualifications. Yet there is an industrial demand for learners who can tackle the challenges related to energy. A new educational offering dedicated to energy is essential, structured using modern approaches, technologies and standards. This transition thus calls for the development of an interdisciplinary approach and the ability to combine theory, practice and community engagement to for an innovative impact driven qualification on opportunities that exist. This qualification focuses on Energy which was presented and welcomed by industry partners such as ESKOM, Telkom, Master Technology (MTech) and Total Facilities Management Company (TFMC). |

| Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Utilise resources to communicate and defend substantial ideas that are the products of research or development in to energy efficiency engineering. 4. An ability to make autonomous ethical decisions which affect knowledge production. 5. Engage in independent research and lifelong learning through specialised developed skills. | INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
The Europa-Universität Flensburg offers a Master of Engineering in Energy and Environmental Management at EQF (total 8) Level 7, totalling 150 credits (60-120 ECTS) and (30 ECTS for the Thesis). Minimum requirements for this qualification are: > Proof of Proficiency in the English language (TOEFL iBT Score 80, IELTS Band 6) above-average Bachelor or equivalent university degree in Industrial or Business Engineering after a minimum of four years of studies and a professional experience of at least two years in a field related to the course focus. or > An above-average Bachelor or equivalent university Degree in Engineering after a minimum of four years of studies and a professional experience of at least two years in a field related to the course focus and proof of successful completion of the preparation course in economics. Similarities and or differences in practices and standards: > Accredited by ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik e.V.). > Outcome based/driven-Constructive Alignment Approach. The University of Science and Technology offers Master of Sustainable Energy Systems. This qualification is offered at NQF Level 9, totalling 240 credits. The qualification seeks to recruit suitably qualified learners who are capable of benefitting from, contributing to, and successfully completing the qualification. Learners will be considered for admission into the qualification if they have. Minimum requirements for this qualification are: > A Bachelor's Degree (Honours) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, processing, Agriculture engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 8 from a recognised institution, or a pre-NQF professional or any other engineering field assessed by the admission committee and (Applied) Physics or a field closely related to these qualifications. > Also other professionals who may prove long term track experience in the energy industry and must have completed Bachelor's Degrees (Hons) in Economics, Social Sciences, Environmental studies, or any equivalent as approved by the admission committee. > Demonstrate proficiency in English communication at Postgraduate level, as demonstrated by the fact that the undergraduate Degree was done in the medium of English. If the undergraduate Degree was not obtained in the medium of English, then the applicant will be required to show proficiency in the medium of English through achieving at least band 7 of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or an equivalent. Final selection of candidates will be approved by the Postgraduate Studies Committee. Learners will gain proficiency in sustainable and renewable energy project design, implementation, operation and maintenance, as well as in crucial phases of policy generation. The qualification is structured to facilitate specialisation in the areas of Energy Technologies and Energy Management. Students will also be equipped with skills to work and study independently, synthesise knowledge at the forefront of Sustainable Energy, and conduct research using the scientific method. Conclusion: This qualification is similar to the qualifications offered by the above-mentioned countries in terms of the Outcome based/driven - Constructive Alignment Approach. |
