| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Purpose:
The purpose of Higher Certificate in Sport Administration is to provide sport administrators with competencies to ensure that the administration of sports and sporting events are carried out professionally, effectively and ethically. This is ensured by using the principles, knowledge and skills of sport administration. This qualification breaches the current skills gap by positively affecting the administration of sports organisations, on the integration of sports within the community to promote healthy lifestyles and on the ability of individuals in the community to host international events. The qualification accommodates individuals and sport professionals interested in contributing to sport administration and management. The qualification aims to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to become an administrator of sport on local, regional and national level. In order to be successful, learners should have a keen interest in sport, but of greater importance is their ability to develop as an administrator. A successful learner will be able to follow a career in sport administration, managing sports/people/programmes, sport consultation, sport entrepreneur. On completion of this qualification, the qualifying learner will be able to: Rationale: The qualification aims to equip learners with knowledge and skills that enables them to develop tools and techniques required in the administration of sport, fitness and recreation enterprises, sports organisations and individuals involved in sport and fitness activities. Sport administrators are required to undergo professional training and education in order to adequately administer sports clubs and sporting events. Currently Sport Federations do not provide administrative training nor are there any formal administration qualifications offered by Universities. The Sports management qualifications do not necessarily address the needs of sports administrators. There is a need to provide administrative training and content knowledge to support sport delivery at schools, Sport Federations and at a club level. This qualification prepares learners to promote good governance, professionalism and expertise within the sport, fitness and recreation environment. Sport has become professional, and professionalism in sport requires the professional administrators of sport. The qualification trains competent professionals in sport administration who will assist in promoting the standard of sport and encourage sport participation in South Africa, as well as develop the necessary work force needed in sport for diverse settings such as schools, clubs and Sports Federations. |

| Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution accepts Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as an integral part of education and academic practice. | Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2: Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3: Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4: Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 5: Integrated Assessment: Formative and Summative Assessments will be integrated to provide a coherent indication of the candidates' ability, skill and experience. Formative Assessment practices will include formal and informal class tests, module or semester tests (where applicable), projects and practical assessments. Summative Assessment will be done on completion of each module to assess the achievement of outcomes and may include written examinations, practical examinations, and project assessments. Integrated Assessment approaches focus on assessing the achievement of the Exit-Level Outcomes holistically, that is, in groups rather than individually, and will be done where possible by means of written examinations, practical examinations, project evaluations and final examinations in each module, including project reports and presentation assessments. Work Integrated Learning will be included in the qualification and will be assessed through the development of a portfolio of evidence, documented, monitored and assessed as required by both University staff, and staff on the sites where learners will be placed. |
