PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
The purpose of this qualification is to expose learners to contemporary developments in the discipline of information systems and technology. It will also enable learners to contribute to the strategic and tactical use of information in large corporations and build a foundation for further studies in information systems and technology.

Rationale:
This qualification is concerned with the systems and technologies used in and by companies Corporations are always searching for better ways to produce goods and services. When new technological developments give some organisations a competitive advantage, their rivals try to catch up by adopting and improving on the new technologies. Aspects of alignment of Information Technology (IT) are considered. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The institution accepts the principle underlying outcomes-based, source-based and life-long learning, in which considerations of articulation and mobility play a significant role, and subscribes to the view that Recognition of Prior Learning, whether acquired by formal education curricula at this or another institution or informally (by experience) is an indispensable element in deciding on admission to and awarding credits in an explicitly selected teaching-learning qualification of the institution.

An applicant who falls outside of the formal qualifications system, but who can demonstrate (through the production of substantial and satisfactory evidence) experiential or work-based learning or a non-formal qualification (or a combination), may be considered for admission and/or for the Recognition of Prior Learning for the achievement of the qualification in part or in full. An applicant who after such assessment, is deemed to have sufficient potential, but is in need of further academic development, must be directed to other suitable learning qualifications prior to admission or to parallel qualifications after admission.

    1. Demonstrate in writing their understanding of Information Systems & Technology (IST) theories and principles.
    2. Demonstrate their ability to apply IST theory in practice. Such assessment will be done according to the learner's problem analysis and reporting.

    4. Collect, analyse, and report on IST information gathered from organisations in order to develop solutions to problems.

  • Conduct and present, in the field of information systems and technology, valid academic research.
  • Present academically sound arguments (in discussion, formal presentations and examination conditions).
  • Evaluate/analyse standpoints on current key information systems and technology issues.
  • Write reports that will require group development of solutions to management problems involving various organisational stakeholders.
  • Make verbal presentations on the outcomes of individual and group work.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The learners will be exposed to research methods and applications and will be required to apply these methods throughout the qualification in all the modules. Most modules include work-based assignments, which require the application of research methods. These assignments provide the learners with opportunities to further develop their research skills and integrate the theoretical and applied fields covered in the coursework of the qualification. The learners will be supported by experienced the institution's staff with evidence of research activity themselves. 

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    This qualification is comparable with similar qualifications offered in various higher education institutions internationally.
