| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| To equip graduates with values, knowledge and skills to enable them to engage at a high level in continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and rewarding contributions beneficial to society
To provide South Africa with a cadre of planning or engineering and management focussed graduates who have a sound basis of high level knowledge, competence and skills in planning, engineering, technological and management arenas so that they may act as participants or leaders of project teams dealing creatively with social, developmental, environmental, engineering and physical design challenges associated with human activity. More specifically, to provide students with: q Postgraduate level knowledge in systems, planning, engineering and business sciences that will permit them to solve planning, engineering, management and social problems and multi-disciplinary combinations of these, at a high level using processes of analysis and synthesis; the end product of these processes is usually but not limited to management systems, schemes or practices which serve the needs of society with due regard to social, economic and environmental aspects. q Appropriate high level skills and tools, such as ability to use computers, networks and information sources for accessing, processing and managing information to enhance the planning, engineering and business management enterprise, as well as personal intellectual growth and productivity and so promote life long learning. q Effective communication skills, both oral and written, so as to enhance interaction with the wider engineering and business community oriented towards exercising leadership in a knowledge based economy. q The necessary high-level understanding of the surround within which decisions are made in planning, engineering and business management and which contribute to the wider good of society. q High-level knowledge, skills and values to contribute to the upliftment of communities and the country through planning, engineering, management and other related professional activities. |

The necessary understanding of the professional and ethical qualities for the practice of planning, engineering, science and business for the good society. 4. Knowledge, skills and values to contribute to the upliftment of communities and the country through engineering, scientific, management, business and other professions. 5. As a minimum, the learner will need the equivalent of a four-year undergraduate (i.e. honours) degree in engineering, molecular, life or mathematical sciences, business, management or social science and would have proven skills and competence in these areas at a recognised international level. 1. Senior certificate with Matriculation Exemption or Equivalent university admission qualification 2. First degree: BSc (Eng), BBusSci. 3. Honours degree: BSc (Hons), BA (Hons), B.Com (Hons) 4. Master`s degree (s) MTech Recognition of prior learning (e.g. Work or field experience (if applicable) B.Tech- 10 years appropriate work experience in field of specialization. BSc- 10 years appropriate work experience in the field of specialisation. State specific additional requirements (e.g. matric subjects) BSc, BA, BCom (3 year) degree holders without necessary work experience need to complete the Hons (4th) year equivalent credits in the field of specialization as well as meet the requirements of the M.Eng.Man degree to qualify. |

Integrated assessment To ensure that students have integrated their knowledge, skills, and competencies from the programme, they are assessed by one comprehensive individual project (comprising one quarter of the programme credits) involving: - An analysis of a real engineering, managerial, technical, social or multi-disciplinary problems in the context of the professional, economic and practical requirements and constraints allowing the students to demonstrate the integration of his/her theoretical knowledge into a practical open-ended problem that requires a solution, assessed by means of an oral presentation and written report (which is externally examined), Or A comprehensive design or research project involving planning, information gathering, model construction (physical or other models, e.g. numeric), testing, data collection, analysis, interpretation, synthesis, design and information generation, based on application of theoretical knowledge, to produce an engineering, managerial, planning or environmental solution of an open-ended problem assessed by means of an oral presentation and a comprehensive written professional report (which is externally examined). |
