The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
  • The (first) purpose of this qualification is to provide graduate students with an opportunity to refine their research skills in their particular field of specialisation within Human Movement Science.
  • The (second) purpose of the qualification is to increase the skills and knowledge of students in their areas of specialisation.

    Rationale:
  • To provide the South African Community with knowledgeable and competent leaders in the field of sport, physical education and recreation.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
  • Prior learning may be recognised for access.

    Entry Requirements:
  • Honours Degree in Human Movement Science, Level 8.

    Specific Outcomes.
  • Qualifiers in the Degree of Master of Human Movement Science must present a thesis in their field of specialisation. 

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    Qualifiers will present a thesis in a field of specialisation such as sport and exercise physiology, sport psychology, sport sociology, motor learning, sport history, kinanthropometry, physical education, recreation, sport management, adapted sport and physical education and dance, in which:
  • Current international standards for research and scholarship in the principal area of inquiry on Master`s Degree level is satisfied.
  • The research strategy is fully specified and the research findings are appropriately presented and evaluated.
  • The central argument and its relations with current and earlier academic theory are clearly set out.
  • Appropriate primary and secondary sources to acquire information are used.
  • Intellectual independence and analytical skills in developing systematic arguments are demonstrated.
  • The weight of various kinds of evidence for claims and theories in the field of Human Movement Science are assessed.
  • Conclusions are justified by means of appropriate argument or evidence.
  • Appropriate solutions to Human Movement Science problems are arrived at by drawing on relevant evidence and theory.
  • The researcher demonstrates the ability to participate in, and contribute to, debate in a relevant area of Human Movement Science.

    Integrated Assessment:
  • Qualifiers have to successfully complete and defend a thesis on research in their area of specialisation. This thesis integrates the assessment of learning and experience related to the generic and specific outcomes of the programme.
