Purpose and Rationale of the Qualification:
Graduates will:
  • Be able to develop knowledge and skills for career opportunities in academic and research institutions, consultancy, military affairs, diplomacy particularly foreign affairs, national and international law, national, regional and international organisations, multinational corporations, national and provincial governments and non-governmental organisations.
  • Be able to contribute towards the development and expansion of capacity building in peace studies and international relations essential for South Africa to achieve and expand the interests of its people in its participation in regional, continental and international affairs.
  • Be competent in specialised theoretical knowledge and experience as well as analytical and technical skills in peace studies and international relations.
  • Be competent in establishing linkages with individuals, governmental and non-governmental organisations ( such as the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Defence, Africa Institute of South Africa, Institute for Security Studies, Institute for Global Dialogue, Nigerian Institute of International Relations) and other academic and research institutions at national and international levels, involved in the study of such linkages so as to co-operate on the promotion of inter- and multi- disciplinary perspectives on issues of peace, wars, security, unity and sustainable development in Africa and the South in general.
