| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Purpose:
The purpose of the qualification is to graduate anaesthesiologists capable of delivering comprehensive, cost-effective patient care in anaesthesia, critical care and pain management relevant to a South African context. The objective is to produce a graduate with both academic a clinical skills necessary for independent specialist practice. Additional purposes include an understanding of research methodology and the literature, and an ability to answer questions by means of research and to pass on the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the discipline of anaesthesia to future generations of doctors. Rationale: This qualification trains medical doctors to become specialists in Anaesthesia. |

| Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome:
Integrated Assessment: Candidates complete the Colleges of Medicine Examinations Part 1 and Part 2, for which they get credit towards the Master of Medicine (MMed). They then complete a dissertation of 60 Credits before qualifying with the MMed Degree. All examinations and the dissertation are externally examined. |
