The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
The purpose of the training is to equip the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage all aspects of clinical Paediatric Nephrology. The curriculum includes a comprehensive approach in the care of children with renal conditions, the management of both acute and chronic renal failure, including dialysis and transplant and incorporating all important aspects of supportive care.

The graduate would be expected to be able to:
  • Research complex cases and coordinate multidisciplinary management.
  • Audit results and manage treatment protocols.
  • Plan and manage nephrology services.
  • Provide a consultative service to other subspecialties.
  • Educate nursing and medical staff.
  • Conduct a research project and present at a scientific meeting.

    EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
    At the end of the training period the graduate should have:
    1. Built a sound knowledge base via reading, bedside teaching, tutorials, case discussions, and radiology-urology meetings, developed a solid clinical grounding in Paediatric Nephrology through practical experience, mastered the requisite procedural skills, including insertion of Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) catheters, performing renal biopsies.
    2. PD Developed a highly effective communication skill set and a thorough understanding of ethics as it applies to Paediatric Nephrology and transplantation.
    3. Developed an understanding of the theory and practice of evidence based medicine.
    4. Developed the ability to conduct research at master's level.

    Integrated Assessment:
    The examination consists of two parts:
  • The examination in Part I consists of one or more written paper(s) and/or such practical and/or oral examinations as the examiners may require.
  • The examination in Part 2 (for those candidates who wish to obtain the Degree) consists of a dissertation.
