PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
Purpose:
The purpose of this qualification is to equip the learners with intermediate Business Management theories, specifically related to Project Management to supplement their practical experience in the workplace to enable them to act in a Supervisory and Junior Management capacity. Rationale: The customisation of learning qualifications to the industry is one of the most dynamic features of the institution as a comprehensive institution. Career orientated learning qualifications are particularly associated with learning that meets the specified needs of industry and facilitate access to learning in a manageable manner in terms of cost, time, energy and resources, both for the employer and employee. This qualification targets specific adult learners to upgrade skills and knowledge in the workplace context. |
LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
The institution accepts Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as an integral part of education and academic practice. It is acknowledged that all learning has value and the institution will endeavour to assess prior learning and award credit where relevant.

This qualification comprises of the compulsory module at (NQF) Level 6 totalling 120 Credits.

2. Explain basic economic principles. 3. Relate change management principles and theories to effect change within the organisation. 4. Apply international management principles in establishing and managing a global business mind set within international organisations. 5. Use management accounting principles to develop an operational budget and controlling the budget. 6. Use accepted risk management terminology and the risk management framework. 7. Apply basic operations theoretical concepts and principles. 8. Provide an overview of Information Technology Management in the workplace. 9. Analyse services within the organisation and explain the closing of Services Gaps. 10. Interpret basic Supply Chain Management principles for inbound and outbound materials, goods and services. |
ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
The following Associated Assessment Criteria will be used in an integrated manner across Exit Level Outcomes:
Integrated Assessment: Assessment across the qualification forms an integral part of the teaching and learning process for this qualification. In achieving the learning outcomes, learners are required to comply with the minimum assessments set for the level of the qualification, as per the Institution's Assessment Policy. Assessments vary depending on the module and the outcomes of the module, however, all modules are formatively and summative assessed. The assessment of theoretical modules is usually in the form of assignments, practical's and written tests or examinations. The weighting of the different assessments toward the calculation of the final mark is indicated to learners in the learning guide for each module. Formative Assessment opportunities are not formally recorded and take the form of class tests, question and answer sessions and monitoring of practical work. Summative Assessment leads to the final judgmental mark in accordance to with the institution's Assessment Policy. The assessments for theoretical modules will be in the form of assignments and written tests or practical examinations. Integrated Assessments/case studies also take place through a variety of assignments, for example, those completed in industry or those that assess aggregated knowledge acquired (such as in a capstone module). |
INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
Internationally, most universities do not offer the Advanced Certificate as a qualification type at undergraduate level. The Diploma is an example of an equivalent undergraduate qualification of one-year duration. The Advanced Certificate in Business Management in Project Management offered by the institution is comparable with the Diploma in Business Management offered by the London School of Planning and Management and Management about the programme structure, the content of the modules and the total credits for the qualification.
The Advanced Certificate in Business Management in Project Management is also similar to the Diploma of Leadership and Management offered by Unity College in Australia about the contents of the range of modules.
