PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The qualification is intended for company secretaries. The qualifying learner will have the knowledge, skills and abilities in management, administration and communication to be responsible for and participate in assisting the board of directors in the execution of their duties on achieving and maintaining an efficient profitable organisation. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
A qualification at NQF Level 6 with 360 credit with at least Accounting and Corporate law at level 6.

1. General, board and committee meetings are organised taking into account statutory regulations.
  • Minutes of meetings are kept.
  • Various registers and other books prescribed by statute are kept.
  • All relevant corporate information is filed with the Registrar of Companies and other Government Departments.
  • Official correspondence is received, co-ordinated and distributed within the entity.
  • Relevant circulars to shareholders are prepared and published.
  • Annual financial reports are published.
  • Information is distributed between the board of directors, executives of the corporate entity and the employees.
    2. Administrative tasks within the corporate entity are supervised.
  • Problems arising are resolved independently.
  • Statutory returns are submitted.
  • JSE Regulations and Securities Regulation Code are complied with, if listed entity.
  • Pension Funds/provident funds and group life assurances schemes are administered.
  • Intellectual property rights of entity are protected against infringements.
  • Different departments are supervised for compliance with corporate policies.
  • Acceptable human resource practices are applied with reference to relevant labour legislation.
    3. Board procedures are followed and regularly reviewed.
  • Board proceedings are administered, attended and minutes are prepared.
  • Statutory duties/Codes of Corporate Practice are brought to the attention of the board.

  • ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Articulates with qualifications at NQF Level 8 (M-Tech) in Corporate Administration or in the related field such as
    M Tech in Accounting, or Advanced Corporate Procedures. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Currently SERTEC, and other structures such as the HETQA still to be registered. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    To meet the requirements of SERTEC, professional bodies and other relevant structures set by the SGB. 

    NOTES 
    While South Africa still had Technikons, all of their qualifications were registered under the Committee of Technikon Principals. After the Technikons became Universities of Technology or merged with Universities, the qualifications were registered under each of these institutions, and the CTP qualifications fell away (hence the end date of 2006, above). Where relevant, replacement information is
    shown in the table above.
