PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose:
The Postgraduate Diploma in Administrative Information Management is designed to strengthen and deepen the learners' knowledge in administrative information and knowledge management. It will enable information management professionals to undertake advanced reflection and development by means of a systemic survey of current thinking, practice and research methods in Administrative Information Management as an area of specialisation. This qualification demands a high level of theoretical engagement and intellectual independence, as well as the ability to relate knowledge to a range of contexts in order to undertake professional or highly-skilled work within the information and knowledge industry. This qualification includes conducting and reporting research under supervision with a research proposal as an outcome.

Rationale:
The Postgraduate Diploma in Administrative Information Management (AIM) is developed to meet the specific career path needs in the administrative business environment as confirmed by industry. Prospective learners will typically have completed the Advanced Diploma in AIM. This qualification is aimed at empowering incumbents with focused and applied specialisation which meets the requirements of a specific niche in the labour market. It involves specific knowledge and skills to perform at specialist and managerial levels within multi-disciplinary administrative environments.

This qualification is therefore particularly suitable for continuing professional development through the enhancement of deep and systematic understanding of contemporary business operations which includes independent decision-making, analytical approaches and relevant cutting edge technologies, thus contributing to the benefits of the society and the economy. This qualification offers learners access to the Master of Management Sciences in Administrative Information Management. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
As per the institutional policy, credits towards this qualification may be obtained by means of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Candidates who do not meet the minimum entrance requirements but who can demonstrate satisfactory levels of competence in the field may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning and may be granted entry to the qualification on this basis.

    This qualification comprises compulsory modules at Level 8, totalling 120 Credits.

  • Information Administration V, 30 Credits.
  • Corporate Entrepreneurship, 30 Credits.

    1. Apply comprehensive strategic administration of human resources, operations, knowledge and change within an organization.
    2. Evaluate enterprise information systems.
    3. Evaluate corporate strategies within an organization as applied in information administration.
    4. Develop a research proposal with a topic related to issues within the field of human resource management.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
  • Evaluate strategic administration of resources in an organisation.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
  • Develop a technology based platform that integrate and coordinate business processes.
  • Identify mechanisms to oversee the use of information and related technology, established and linked to create value and manage the risks associated with using information and technology.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
  • Evaluate a corporate strategy that supports innovation.
  • Analyse the organisational environment that supports and encourages entrepreneurial behaviourism.
  • Analyse the obstacles that can hinder the sustenance of corporate entrepreneurship are.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:
  • Develop a quality research proposal that meets the requirements for access into a Master's Degree.

    Integrated Assessment:
    Formative assessment strategies are continuous and aimed at giving learners feedback on their progress in the achievement of learning outcomes as well as to integrate theoretical and practical competence. Such strategies include informal assignments, discussions, case studies, informal tests and tutoring.

    Some of the criteria may be accessed through observation of the learners during classes. Summative assessment strategies are aimed at judgment of the learning in relation to the Exit Level Outcomes of the qualification. Such strategies include examinations, reports, projects or equivalent such as a portfolio of evidence which is representative of a selection of the outcomes.

    The outcomes of the formal assignments and tests will contribute to a cumulative class mark as per the pre-arrangement with the learners. In the formal assignments and tests, and in the respective examinations learners will have to demonstrate the ability to communicate and integrate knowledge of the key issues, highlighted in the respective modules, and identify and resolve typical problems in the subfields as indicated. This will require critical and creative thinking as well as the ability to make practical applications of the learning outcomes as indicated in the module descriptors. 

  • INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    Qualifications offered by other higher education institutions were scrutinised and international best practices were taken into consideration. The Postgraduate Diploma in Administrative Information Management was compared to qualifications, outcomes and purposes for business administration and information management in higher education institutions in Malaysia, Namibia, United States of America and New Zealand. South Africa is at the cutting edge in this field, showcasing various additional value- added modules which are introduced even at undergraduate level which reflects diversity in terms of ancillary modules.

    A direct comparison of the Title, Exit Level Outcomes and Assessment Criteria was undertaken with each. It seems that most of the international administrative management qualifications that are similar to this qualification are pitched at undergraduate Degree and Postgraduate levels and many of those that are at undergraduate level are often aimed at candidates who have work experience.

    Malaysia:
    Mara University of Technology in Malaysia has a faculty Office Management of Technology and their qualification title is Office Systems Management.

    Namibia:
    The Polytechnic of Namibia's qualification title is Office Management and Technology. The content of the qualification is aligned to international practices. The qualifications that have been selected are the most closely aligned in terms of duration and comparable learning outcomes.

    Conclusion:
    The international qualifications with which this qualification was compared have the same themes and purposes as this qualification but seem to offer it more compartmentally. Although the content is similar, the structure of the qualification differs. The qualification titles are reflected differently in different countries although the content, approach and duration are similar.
