PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION
Purpose:
The purpose of qualification is to equip students with advanced and specialized knowledge of Coaching Science and Game Analysis together with the accompanying skills, competencies and attitudes. Specifically, these translate to equipping sport coaches with the skills and knowledge that they need to coach and manage sport participants effectively. Successful learners will be absorbed in the sport coaching field from beginner to pre-elite level.
The qualification provides a multidisciplinary, theoretical understanding of sport coaching and aims at presenting knowledge, applied knowledge and skills for the successful development of athletes in the school, club, and provincial sectors.
The qualification is redesigned to reflect the purpose, outcome and curricula consistent with a Higher Education Sub-FrameWork (HESQF) Honours (Level 8) and is structured around core theoretical areas and includes research into Coaching Science.

Rationale:
The learning qualification addresses the need for training in respect of specialist knowledge and skills in the field of coaching science, and for an in-depth understanding of the implications for athletes and coaches in both rural and urban areas, in order to provide South Africa with sufficient numbers of graduates in Coaching Science (sport coaching and game analysis) with a clear and growing understanding of the place of Human Movement Science in the sport coaching industry, who will be able to function optimally within the South Africa (SA) coaching framework.
The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) have developed and are in the process of implementing a South African coaching framework which is aligned with the global coaching framework.
The qualification will produce graduates who will be appropriately educated to function optimally within the SA coaching framework.
