Performing general surface grinding operations and checking the results with precision measuring instruments. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • This unit standard has been designed as the start of a progression. It is one of a series of unit standards for activities at and above this level. The credits assigned to it are based on the assumption that I am learning what is needed for this unit standard as part of my learning for a range of related unit standards at this level.
  • If I have experience in these related activities but do not have credits for them, I can obtain credits by being assessed through a process that recognises prior learning.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    1. The learner works autonomously under limited supervision.

    2. The range of general surface grinding operations includes dressing grinding wheels, and grinding of surface of magnetic chuck, to opposite sides, flat and parallel, flat face and shoulder, two vertical faces parallel and central, angular face, slots, vees using a disk wheel or cup wheel, dovetail using a formed wheel, male or female radii, thin plate and slitting or cutting, plunge cutting.
