PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner accredited with this standard will be able to manage the housekeeping function in its entirety, thereby facilitating the efficient handling, storage and movement of freight. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Occupational Health, Safety and General Housekeeping, and First Aid;
  • Computer Literacy is also a prerequisite. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This standard is applicable to those in a control/management position within operations in a freight handling/storage environment. The applied competence expressed in this standard cover a variety of routine and non-routine situations within housekeeping. These will require the analytical interpretation of a wide range of data using a broad knowledge based with substantial depth in some areas in order to manage the housekeeping function effectively. The candidate will have full responsibility for the nature and quality of outcomes of his/her actions/decisions together with the outputs of group members involved in housekeeping functions.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar and the programs offered by this institution must be accredited with the relevant ETQA.

    3. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

    2. The fundamentals of logistics and supply chain management systems and space utilisation.

    3. The effects of poor housekeeping on staff performance and welfare, customer relations and profitability (e.g. excessive sick leave).

    4. Basic management techniques for the effective implementation of resource utilisation practices.

    5. Information sources pertaining to appropriate developmental and training resources. 


    Critical Cross-field Outcomes (CCFO):
