PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding pertaining to human development at various stages, focusing on the changes that occur in structure and function as they relate to education, exercise and dance involvement. The main purpose being, dance instruction to learners of all ages, gender and physical abilities in an accommodating and safe practice.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Understanding human development in terms of the changes which individuals and groups experience.
  • Explaining the factors and needs of each developmental stage for a specific dance genre.
  • Applying child and adult learning principles within related dance groups.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • The stages of human development should also cut across physical disabilities and religious and cultural values.
  • Stages of human development refers to child (toddlers, young children), adolescence, adulthood (young adult, middle adult, and advanced adult), etc.

    Possible solutions to challenges are identified and explained for each developmental stage.

    Dance instruction is evaluated to inform strengths and weaknesses of facilitation approaches in both child and adult dance instruction.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
