PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners working towards this Unit Standard will be working within a sport education function, or golf club environment providing support services to golf clubs, golf coaching, and golf event management, where the acquisition of competence against this Unit Standard will add value to one`s job. This Unit Standard will provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to co-ordinate and manage golf club facilities by engaging the learner in exercises to assist in the planning, co-ordinating, administering and monitoring of golfing facilities operational plan.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrating understanding of the history and development of golf clubs and their management requirements.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the typical types of golf club facilities and their functions.
  • Assisting in planning and co-ordinating a golf facility operation.
  • Administering and monitoring a golfing facilities operational plan.

    Future trends in golfing development are discussed and evaluated in the context of golf club and resort management.

    The golf and golf tourism industry is understood and explained in the context of the management of golf clubs and facilities.

    Demonstrate knowledge of the typical types of golf club facilities and their functions.

    The essentials of green keeping and golf course maintenance are described and explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The essentials of a pro-shop facility, its planning operation and maintenance is explained briefly. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The essentials of a caddy facility, its planning and operation is described briefly. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The essentials of the golf cart fleet facility, its planning maintenance and operation are explained and described with examples.

    The essentials of a golf clubhouse facility and its components and their operation and maintenance are explained briefly with examples.

    Assist in planning and co-ordinating a golf facility operation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The principles of planning are identified in relationship to golf facility co-ordination. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    An operational plan for a golfing facility is drawn up following club procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Components of an operational plan include, but are not limited to, scheduled maintenance, reactive maintenance, safety plans, contingency plans.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The operational plan is scheduled for a golfing facility. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The basic administration of an operational plan is carried out for a golfing facility. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Basic administration includes, but is not limited, to compiling maintenance schedules, administering schedules, stock control, asset register maintenance, checklists, safety reports and usage reports.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Administer and monitor a golfing facilities operational plan.

    Inspections are conducted according to the operational plan.

    The human and physical resources needed to carry out the operation plan are identified and co-ordinated.

    The expenditure needed to carry out the operation plan is identified in relationship to the facilities budget.

    Schedules are adhered to according to the operational plan.
