PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard develops competencies in understanding the need for legislation in relation to a company, the importance of business processes and the company's vision, mission and values.

Learners credited with this standard will be able to:
  • Demonstrate understanding of procedure related to legislation.
  • Explain the company's vision, mission and values.
  • Discuss company processes.

    The concept of legislation hierarchy is described in terms of the different levels of government. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The purpose of the relevant legislation is discussed as it applies to manufacturing and assembly contexts. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    This includes but is not limited to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, the Employment Equity Act, the Labour Relations Act, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Skills Development Act.

    The evolution of labour legislation in South Africa is discussed in terms of the evolution of the trade union movement and the implications for business.

    The broad duties and responsibilities of employers and employees are discussed in terms of relevant legislation.

    The role of a bargaining council is described in terms of how it affects policy making.

    The company's equity plan is explained to assess whether its targets have been met.

    The process of designing company policies and procedures is described in terms of maintaining policies and procedures relating to legislation.

    A company's vision, mission and values are discussed and illustrated in terms of how an individual can identify with these aspects.

    The way in which the vision, mission and values conform to applicable legislation is discussed to ensure compliance with the law. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The need to maintain the vision and mission of the company is discussed in terms of the implications for the individual employee and the company.

    The relationship between legislation, corporate values and individual values is explored in terms of their roles and differences.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The company's business strategy is compared to the company's business plan in terms of their similarities and differences and how they influence each other. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Business processes are analysed in terms of their relationship to applicable legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The link between company procedures and relevant legislation is explored in order to ensure ethical behaviour by all employees and management. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the ETQA policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual unit standards as well as the integrated competence described in the qualification.
