PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to organise and carrying out of post-production and finishing operations in order to ensure all the manufactured and/or assembled products meet both the customers and/or job requirements.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing for post-production and finishing activities.
  • Applying finishing procedures to product.
  • Carrying out post-production/assembly operations.

    Packing and finishing requirements for product or components are checked in accordance with specific product requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Required materials and tools are at work station ready for use. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Working area is prepared according to standard operating procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Apply finishing procedures to product. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Finishing products may include marking, labelling, stamping; packing, wrapping, stacking; simple product testing such as functionality testing, bundling, strapping, coiling, straightening, binding and reeling.

    Finishing procedures are explained in terms of product and customer requirement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Operations and procedures to the finished or semi-finished product are carried out according to product and customer requirements.

    Products and equipment are handled and used safely and correctly. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Wastage or damage to product is kept to a minimum. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Finished products are sent to the next stage or storage. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Carry out post-production/assembly operations. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Post-production operations include clamping, placing into fixtures or jigs, cleaning off residues, polishing, wiping, washing, dusting, lifting, removing product; conditioning, annealing or post-cure, spraying and punching.

    All occurances are reported according to standard operating procedures.

    Tools and equipment are checked that they are mechanically sound and problems are reported according to workplace specific requirements.

    Materials, tools and equipment are stored according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Implications of the incorrect storing of materials, tools and equipment are described of its impact on health, safety and production.
