PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners working within a payroll environment, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to one's job capabilities. The completion of this standard will provide the learner with an understanding of how a payslip is structured, what the purpose of a payslip is and the various components of the payslip. An understanding of the payslip will ensure that the learner is competent to handle the various queries that employees may have pertaining to the payslip.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the purpose of the payslip and the various queries that may arise in relation to the payslip.
  • Differentiating between earnings and deductions.
  • Identifying and demonstrating an understanding of the components of a payslip.

    The reasons for a payslip being drawn up each month is basically explained in relation to the basic conditions of employment.

    Typical queries that employees raise in relation to payslips are identified and explained with examples.

  • Any individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
