Learners credited with this Unit Standard will be acquainted with the importance and implementation of international standards organisation/s governing quality. They will also know and be able to differentiate between the terms and definitions used in quality management. A strong conceptual understanding of quality management is important to sustain the quality management activities in organisations and other contexts.

    The principles of quality and their applications are discussed to ensure their effective implementation within an organisation.

    The concept of Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) is discussed using examples.

    The differences between standards/specifications are identified and explained in terms of the contexts in which they are used to maintain a quality management system.
