People in the field of manufacturing and engineering require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard. The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for various manufacturing and engineering qualifications.

    This unit standard is one of a series of unit standards for vehicle manufacturers the field of manufacturing and engineering. It is assumed that the learner is already competent to:

    The following range information is applicable to the entire unit standard:
  • All work is performed under supervision at regular intervals and according to workplace specifications and occupational safety, health and environmental legislation.
  • Production systems refer to but are not limited to inputs applied, transformation processes and required outputs.
  • Production resources refer to but are not restricted to capital, land, water, facilities, human resources, information and raw materials.

    The impact of a lack of production resources in any one production cycle is described in terms of the result on the entire production system.

    The importance of the different components of a production system working together is described in relation to the entire production cycle.

    Consequences of having a particular production aspect operating at a different speed to the rest of the production line are described in terms of the impact on the entire production system.

    Demonstrate knowledge of basic managerial tasks.

    The concept of production goal setting is described in terms of establishing measurable targets and their achievement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Various mechanisms and processes are identified that enable production goals to be set. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Mechanisms include but are not limited to the components of business plans such as SWOT analyses, (micro-, meso- and macro-) environmental analyses and budgets.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The parameters and structure of various production systems are described in terms of how they relate to setting goals and objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Basic goals within a production system are integrated into a bigger goal to achieve the objectives of the organisation. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.

    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines and the agreed ETQA procedures. 

    UNIT STANDARD ESSENTIAL EMBEDDED KNOWLEDGE 
    Essential embedded knowledge will be assessed through assessment of the specific outcomes in terms of the stipulated assessment criteria. Candidates are unlikely to achieve all the specific outcomes, to the standards described in the assessment criteria, without knowledge of the listed embedded knowledge.
