PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at individuals involved in controlling and maintaining of equipment and stores with regard to facilities used in outdoor adventure. Learners credited with this unit standard will therefore contribute to the maintaining of safety within the operational environment through carrying out equipment maintenance, repairs and recording of equipment issued and received.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of adventure equipment.
  • Maintain an inventory of adventure equipment.
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs according to the policies in the area of operation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A thorough understanding is demonstrated of the design of equipment utilised in the operational environment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    An understanding is demonstrated of the workings and application of the relevant adventure equipment according to manufacturer's specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Correct maintenance is applied to adventure equipment according to operational and manufacturer's requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Requirements associated with the safe working of the adventure equipment is explained as per operational and manufacturer's requirements.

    Maintain an inventory of adventure equipment.

    Administrative record-keeping is performed using organisational systems and procedures.

    Inventory records are kept and data recorded in the inventory reporting system with relevant supporting documentation, if required.

    Equipment is appropriately managed with respect to economic considerations and organisation policies and procedures.

    Carry out maintenance and repairs according to the policies in the area of operation.

    Activity facilities, activity areas and equipment are regularly checked for maintenance purposes.

    Repairs are instituted using company policy.

    Replacement of equipment is handled according to organisational processes and policies.

  • Anyone assessing an individual against this unit standard must meet the assessor requirements of the relevant ETQA. In particular, such assessors must demonstrate that they assess in terms of the scope and context defined in all the range statements.

External moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
