PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard will be able to plan a series of practice sessions and use effective methods of instruction to help participants to acquire fundamental skills for sport.

In addition, the learners will be well-positioned to extend their learning and practice to other areas where the aspects of planning and teaching are used to initiate understanding of skills, or to strive toward unit standards and practice at higher levels.

Competent qualifying learners will be able to work effectively with groups and individuals in sport instruction settings, thus accelerating the rate of sport skill development as well as raising the standard of sport performance in general.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Plan practice sessions that consider the basic skill required to teach the skills of sporting activities.
  • Implement a skills plan for beginners to sport.
  • Implement activities that develop the skills and abilities required for learning sport skills. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The typical scope and context of this unit standard is the administration of policy and procedure related to dismissible and non-dismissible offences, and any grievance, relevant to any South African workplace. 

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Plan practice sessions to teach the basic skills required for a sporting activity. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The basic motor skills required to learn a sport are identified for inclusion in the plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A weekly plan is drawn up relative to the skill needs. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Practice sessions are drawn up for the week that detail the sporting skills to be taught. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Relevant equipment is identified that will enhance skills training. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Implement a skills plan for beginners to sport. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Techniques that enhance motor skill learning at beginner level are used proactively to advance the beginner's mastery of the skills. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Techniques and routines are used for remediation of poor/weak mastery by learners. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The plan is amended to ensure that it meets the progress made by learners. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Additional routines are done with advanced or quick learners to advance their mastery and to keep their interest. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Implement activities that develop the skills and abilities required for learning sport skills.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A series of drills are implemented that improve eye-hand and foot-eye coordination. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A series of drills are implemented that improve visual skills. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A series of drills are implemented that improve balance and proprioception. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Relevant activities are implemented that ensure skill learning at the beginner level.

    Equipment is utilised that will enhance skills learning. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard, or assessing this unit standard, must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
