The qualifying learner will be able to:
  • Manage and control the use, maintenance and business continuity of the mission's information communication technology systems.
  • Manage the effective functioning of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems.
  • Manage the security of the communication systems in a mission.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Descriptions are provided of the communication systems as used within the Department of Foreign Affairs. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Explanations are provided for the setting up processes of a communications room. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Encryption devices are utilized and maintained as per Management of Information Security Standards (MISS) and communication security requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The mission's information communication technology is monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure effective maintenance of the system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    ICT business continuity plan is applied according to departmental ICT policies and procedures.

    Manage the effective functioning of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems in a mission.

    The system is described in terms of the ICT components and how they function as a network.

    All the procedures of the ICT systems are managed as per ICT policies.

    Local service providers are managed as per head office contractual arrangements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Communication security prescripts relating to the security of communication systems are analysed to identify application within a mission context. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Security plans are implemented to deal with all aspects of security of communication systems and information. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Security breaches are dealt with according to security procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Cryptographic security is managed according to Management of Information Security Standards, crypto security requirements and in line with the roles and responsibilities of Crypto custodians and cryptographers. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Emergency security plans, including a fire preparedness plan, are compiled and applied according to COMSEC requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Emergency destruction directives are practiced according to departmental requirements.
