PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner is capable of qualifying and stimulating the interest of prospective buyers, by means of static presentation and dynamic demonstration of the features, advantages and benefits of the vehicle with the view to obtain customer commitment.

This unit standard makes provision for the automotive retail industry with special reference to the presentation and demonstration of features, advantages and benefits of a vehicle to prospective buyers in the following categories; Light commercial vehicles; passenger vehicles; recreational vehicles; Motor cycles; Tri-cycles; Quad cycles; Boats; Off Road (ATR) vehicles and earth moving equipment.

On achievement of this unit standard, the learner will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of product features, advantages and benefits.
  • Present a static demonstration of the product features.
  • Conduct a dynamic demonstration of the vehicle.

    The range of features of a selected product can be listed and explained in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

    The advantages and benefits of the different features on the vehicle can be explained according to manufacturer specifications and operating manual instructions.

    Features of a selected product can be compared with other related products and the differences discussed.

    Other related products may include but is not limited to similar products of the company.

    Present a static demonstration of the product features.

    A static presentation includes but is not limited to step walking around the vehicle.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The relevant features of the vehicle important to the prospective buyer are identified and discussed according to company policy and procedure. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Identifying important features may include but is not limited to taking the type of client and the intended use of the vehicle into account.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Features are presented utilising company approved methods of demonstration. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The advantages and the benefits of the features are explained to the customer. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The concerns of the buyer related to the features are identified and overcome in accordance with company procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Overcoming concerns may include but is not limited to a re-demonstration or being able to reference manufacturer specifications/information and marketing material.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Conduct a dynamic demonstration of the vehicle. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    A dynamic demonstration includes but is not limited to test driving the vehicle and or operating features of the vehicle according to company policy. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Features of the vehicle are identified that could not, either not be covered during the static demonstration or could not be fully demonstrated during the static demonstration. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A test drive is conducted in terms of company policy. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    A test drive may include but is not limited to a demonstration of the features that could not be fully demonstrated during the static demonstration.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The advantages and the benefits of the features are explained in accordance with manufacturer specifications while conducting a dynamic demonstration. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Concerns of the buyer related to the features are identified and explained in terms of manufacturer specifications. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed against the unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
