PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
Learners accredited with this Unit Standard will be able to perform routine first line maintenance on production machinery and equipment which is at the heart of the metal production process during the normal production run. The learner at this level is not a maintenance specialist but is sufficiently familiar with the machinery to apply process agents and replace worn parts where specified. The learner will also be able to assist maintenance specialists with their work during shutdowns.

Learners credited with this standard will be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge relating to process equipment maintenance.
  • Identify process equipment problems during production.
  • Perform first line maintenance as per standard operating procedures.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
  • Communication at NQF Level 2.
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 2.
