PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to take the appropriate actions based on the water samples to be collected and follow procedures for its safe handling and the recording of results. Learners will also be able to ensure their actions do not result in unsafe or dangerous situations to people, equipment or the environment.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Describing the specified requirements pertaining to collecting water samples.
  • Preparing to take samples.
  • Conducting water sampling.
  • Performing post-sampling activities.
