PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons in the Electrical Engineering, Generation, Distribution, Transmission, Construction and Renewable Energy Sector.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Install, connect and commission electrical metering units or measuring instruments and their control devices to monitor electrical values or power consumption.

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the electrical engineering and construction environment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The following knowledge, skills, attitude and/or equivalent:
  • Basic electrical theory.
  • Use of basic hand tools and power tools.
  • Use of electrical test instruments.
  • Identification of various metering units or measuring instruments.
  • Mounting of metering units or measuring instruments.
  • Reading of meters or measuring instruments.
  • Reading of drawings and circuit diagrams.

    Planning and preparation includes reading and understanding task instructions engineering drawings and breakdown scheduling, identification of the equipment to be maintained, obtaining maintenance schedules and manufacturer specifications for specific equipment to be assembled.
