PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons in the Electrical Engineering, Generation, Distribution, Transmission, Construction and Renewable Energy Sector.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Design and install electrical wire ways according to plans, job requirements, and statutory requirements to distribute electricity.

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the electrical engineering and construction environment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The following knowledge, skills attitude and/or equivalent:
  • Safe handling of Hand tools.
  • Safe handling of Portable Power tools.
  • Safety in the electrical environment.
  • Install electrical wireways. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Wire way installations includes surface and/or flush mounted techniques.
  • Design refers to planning the layout of wireways and installation circuits.
  • Special wire way accessories approved for use in hazardous areas are used according to statutory requirements.

    Appropriate type of tools are selected and checked for serviceability according to job and statutory requirements.

    Wire ways are measured, cut, formed and/or bent according to designed/planned requirements, obstacles, environment (structure), using appropriate tools and equipment in accordance with work place standards and statutory requirements.

    Wire ways are assembled/joined and mounted according to designs, plans and statutory requirements.

    Adhering to safety precautions and statutory requirements ensuring the safety of all persons.

    The wire ways are tested and ensured to be electrically continuous where applicable.

    All ends are prepared and de-burred.
