    This unit standard is intended to promote general skills and understanding of the interaction between rock strength, stress and fracturing in the mining and minerals sector in order to ensure knowledgeable and informed workers.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The appropriate mine standards, procedures and practices are listed and explained with respect to gullies. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Must include:
  • Gully layout (dimension, position, siding).
  • Drilling and blasting practice (rounds, explosives).
  • Cleaning practices (scraping, snatching).
  • Support (types, quality, spacing).
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Equipment to assess gully stability is listed and checked to be in working order in terms of operational requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Must include:
  • Camera.
  • Tape.
  • Distometer.
  • Note book and pen.
  • Clino rule.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The working place to be assessed is determined in terms of operational requirements.
