PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to demonstrate understanding of advanced automotive gas system equipment including advanced fuel injection systems and sequential gas injection (SGI) systems. Basic gas system equipment including carburettor systems and simple fuel injection systems as well as air conditioning systems are excluded from the outcomes described in this Unit Standard.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Describe typical advanced automotive gas installation equipment and configurations.
  • Describe different advanced automotive gas storage and supply equipment and configurations.
  • Describe different advanced automotive gas delivery and control equipment and systems.
  • Describe different advanced automotive gas applications. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence against communication and mathematical literacy at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

    Learners will also have shown competence in the outcomes of the Unit Standard "Demonstrate understanding of advanced automotive gas system equipment and systems". 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The context of this unit standard assumes an automotive gas installation feeding either an advanced fuel injection system or a sequential gas injection (SGI) system. The scope of this unit standard includes, but is not limited to, one of the following:
  • LPG installations.
  • Compressed natural gas installations.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An assessor, accredited with a relevant NQF Level 3 or higher qualification, will assess the learner's competency.
  • Only an assessor with considerable first hand experience in gas installations will assess the learner's competency.
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Qualification must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Direct observation in simulated or actual work conditions is required.
