This unit standard will be useful to people who have the responsibility to take charge of and operate a remote controlled vehicle in an underground mine.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Explain the specified requirements pertaining to taking charge of and operating a remote controlled vehicle underground.
  • Prepare to take charge of a remote controlled vehicle underground.
  • Take charge of and operate a remote controlled vehicle underground.
  • Perform end of shift duties.

    The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and contribute to the upliftment and economic growth of the mining and minerals.

    This unit standard is intended to promote general skills; knowledge and understanding of taking charge of and operating a remote controlled vehicle in the mining and minerals sector in order to ensure knowledgeable, competent and informed workers.

    The required personal protective equipment is available, operational, fit for purpose and used in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The required tools, material and equipment are fit for purpose, operational and transported to the designated area according to specified requirements in terms of safety, securing and positioning. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The workplace is examined and workplace hazards are dealt with according to specified requirements.
