PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons who install CCTV systems in various sectors. Learners will not just be able to install these systems and will also be able to verify the use of components in a specific application. Installing includes the mounting and configuration of the CCTV systems. Learners will also be able to use CCTV testing equipment to ensure proper installation.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Verify components suitability for the application.
  • Mount and install CCTV components.
  • Use CCTV test equipment.

  • Communication at NQF Level 3.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Operational requirements may include but are not limited to, agreed customer requirements, detection, observation, recognition, identification, legal compliance, manufacturer's requirements, health and safety, industry standards and operational standards.
  • CCTV equipment must include but is not limited to, cameras, high speed domes, lenses, housings, brackets, monitors, stand alone DVR's, sequential switchers, quads, multiplexers, power supply, wired transmission equipment. Excluded equipment: matrix switchers, fibre optic transmission equipment and transmission equipment utilising Ethernet/ATM and Token ring.

    Functionality of equipment is confirmed before installation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    CCTV equipment configuration features are assessed to confirm that the equipment meets the operational requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Configuration features may include but are not limited to, back focus, lens focus, iris adjustment, lens type, lens format, camera type, camera format, backlight compensation, Automatic Gain Control (AGC), shutter speed, contrast, brightness, component termination, video motion detection (VMD), frame rate, image quality, dwell time, time lapse speed.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    CCTV cable requirements are identified and described in terms of their advantages, disadvantages and limitations. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    CCTV Cable requirements must include but are not limited to, video signal, control data, coaxial (RG-179, RG-59, RG-59U, RG-11, RG-11U-cable categories), twisted pair, cable screening.
