This unit standard will enable learners to evaluate, analyse, interpret and communicate information to stakeholders in the transport planning field. This unit standard will benefit learners within the transport planning sector and contributes to professionalism within transport planning processes and systems.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and limited application of data analysis methods.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and limited application of basic transport modelling methods.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and limited application of basic methods used for presenting and communicating data and analysis results.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The role of modelling of transport demand and supply is discussed in order to demonstrate its relevance in the planning process. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Purpose of modelling is to determine unknown or future traffic patterns; range of modelling approaches, from simplified to complex and typical applicability of each; typical inputs and outputs of modelling.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Basic methods and concepts used in transport modelling are discussed to reflect the application of the methods in a defined context. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Purpose, basic concepts of, and relationship between zone and network representation, trip generation, trip distribution, mode split, trip assignment.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A basic short-term sketch planning method is correctly applied by explaining how to solve a particular modelling problem for a local example. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Need for estimating costs of transport services is discussed, in context of transport planning. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Transport costs include capital costs, operating costs, maintenance costs, direct user costs, travel time costs, and non-monetary costs.

    Demonstrate knowledge and limited application of basic methods used for presenting and communicating data and analysis results.
