PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard forms part of the qualification, Music, NQF Level 2. The qualifying learner will understand what ensemble work entails. Furthermore, s/he will be able to create a band image and develop awareness on its existence and performance.

Learner accredited with this Unit Standard will be capable of:
  • Planning and conducting rehearsal procedures under supervision.
  • Presenting and communicating during a performance.
  • Participating in a performance.
  • Formulating a basic Press Kit.

    This unit standard will contribute to the development of a learner within the music field by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of music. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for creating a solid foundation in the field of music.

    Roles of band members and their function are identified according to organisational requirements.

    Repertoire of songs chosen is discussed and agreed upon with all role players concerned according to organisational requirements.

    Song order and set list is formulated according to organisational specification.

    Rehearsal times are selected and rehearsals conducted under supervision according to agreed schedule.

    Smooth starting and ending of Songs is demonstrated according to industry practice.

    Composure during performance is maintained according to industry standard.

    Formulate basic press kit.

    A short biography of each performer and the ensemble is presented in hard copy according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Songs/pieces performed are all included in press kit. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Photographic and/or artistic material is included in the press kit as per organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Basic flyer for the performance with relevant information is produced according to organisational requirements.

  • Any individual wishing to be assessed, (including RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or organisational institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a memorandum of understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a memorandum of understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must hold a minimum of level 3 qualification in the music field.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this US or assessing this US, must be accredited as a organisational with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a memorandum of understanding with the relevant ETQA.
